The fact that VMs work, but slowly suggest that it might be memory related. I don't think we have tested Fusion on a machine with 24 GB of RAM. Thanks for bringing the problem to our attention.
So, what is happening and what can we do? We don't know if there is a limitation in Fusion with the number of VMs concurrently running or there is a parameter to configure or if this is a bug of Fusion. Same VMs are used in VMWare Server3 in other ubuntu hosts and working perfectly, fitting host RAM. Restarting the MAC makes that more VMs coud be started, 2 or 3 more, but then is the same behaviour. In fact, we have 2 xservers and in both of them is the same situation. more!!).There are also enough HDD space for them. Activity monitor shows no problems in CPU, MEM or IO (teorically, all VMs must use about 12 Gb., there must be enough room for other 12 Gb. And then, when try to start another VM, this one lasts 30 minutes to show the 'boot' screen, and is completely unusable. First 8 or 10 VMs start without any problem and they work really fast. Guests are Windows XP & Linux, with memory requirements between 256 Mb. We're having problems with Fusion (3.1 but happened also in 3.0.2 and 2.x) when we try to start a relative 'high' number of virtual machines (between 12 and 14).
